1991 Census: Small Area Statistics and Local Base Statistics Table 100(B)

'Table 100' was produced by OPCS as part of the SAS/LBS series of tables in order to address concerns about poor recording of students in the 1991 Census. The 'Table' in fact consists of two separate tables: Table 100a and Table 100b.

Table 100b gives counts of present students for every local authority district who are resident outside GB by LAD of term-time address. Within WICID, the student's present address at the time of the Census is considered the origin, whilst the term-time address is considered to be the destination.

Thus, Table 100b gives 'present address' [origin] by term time address [destination] for students normally resident outside the UK. For many foreign students, their present and term-time addresses wil be identical. Analysis of the table suggests that there is a higher rate of between-LAD mobility for younger children than there is for students aged 18+. This may be showing children of foreign workers who are at boarding schools. The 1991 Census was conducted when children would have been at their parents home during the Easter vacation.
